MS LOONIE TREATS RESULTS

The last brownie has been sold, and my students have done the final accounting. I am thrilled to let you know that my Loonie Treat/cupcake fundraiser raised $1813.00 this year!! The money will go to the MS Society, as part of the MS Biking to the Viking Fundraising event, which takes place in August. My family and I have participated in this ride since 2008. This summer, we get to try out a new route around Gimli, and cycle 135 km over the weekend.

The mission of the MS Society is to be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life. My cousin lives with MS, which is why this cause is near and dear to my heart.

Thank you so much for supporting my Loonie Treat sale!

FORMER OBCS STUDENT VISITS GR 4,5,6

A former student of ours, Curt Nixon, is currently the Community Outreach Representative for the University of Manitoba College of Medicine Class of 2019. He and his team will be coming to our 4/5/6 classrooms this Friday afternoon, to present a half-day educational program, Brain Waves, on brain health and neuroscience tailored to these grades.

Five learning modules and injury prevention messages will be explored during the half-day presentation. Educational activities, fun experiments, and interactive diagrams will engage students to examine how the lobes, synapses, and senses work together. Students will also apply Science, Health, and Physical Education knowledge as they learn about the importance of injury prevention and identify strategies to protect their brain and body.

Curt and his team have offered to check that bike helmets are properly fitted, so please have your child bring their helmet on Friday.
